Adesanya drops to number five in UFC following Pereira defeat

Following Saturday's defeat to long-time nemesis, Alex Pereira, former UFC Middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has dropped to the fifth place in the latest pound-for-pound ranking.

Brazilian, Alex Pereira, defeated the Nigerian-born New Zealand based fighter for the third time when he was stopped in the fifth round via TKO.

Despite leading on all three scorecards in his UFC 281 title defense against long-time kickboxing rival Alex Pereira, Adesanya succumbed to a fifth-round stoppage for his first loss at middleweight inside the Octagon.

An immediate rematch is likely despite the fact that Pereira now owns three victories over Adesanya across two combat sports.

Meanwhile, it's the first time since unifying the belts in 2019 that Adesanya would not be ranked top in the Middleweight division.

Using the parameters that consider everything from accomplishment to current form, below are the current top fighters in the Octagon:

1. Alexander Volkanovski - Featherweight champion (24-1)

2. Kawaru Usman - Welterweight champion (20-2)

3. Islam Malhachec - Lightweight champion (23-1)

4. Francis Ngannou - Heavyweight champion (16-3)

5. Israel Adesanya - Middleweight champion (23-2)
