African Athletics Championship: Tobi Amusan clinches gold for team Nigeria

Nigeria's Tobiloba Amusan on Thursday won gold for team Nigeria in the women's 100m Hurdles.

She blitzed to what is now a second fastest championship record of 12.58s at the ongoing African Athletics Championship in Mauritius. The 25 year old is now the second fastest 100m runner in the competition after Ivory Coast's Murielle Ahouré who set a record of 10.99 (+2.0 m/s) during the 2016 edition of the Championship in South Africa. Tobi is part of other Nigerian athletes at the 2022 African Athletics Championships in Mauritius. Meanwhile, Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala has emerged king of the men’s 100m on day two of the the African Athletics Championships in Mauritius. The 26-year-old pipped his South African counterpart Akani Simbine in a photo finish, with the unofficial result showing Omanyala had won by three thousandths of a second, crossing the line in 9.927, just ahead of Simbine who clocked in at 9.930. Omanyala’s victory over Simbine marks a second significant step in the Kenyan’s quest for African sprint supremacy.
