Aisha Buhari Cup: Oparanozie included in Super Falcon Squad
Former captain of the Super Falcons, Desire Oparanozie has been called up to the Nigeria women’s national team squad for the Aisha Buhari Cup. The experienced forward would be representing the country for the first time in two years.
Oparanozie was the captain of the side of the team at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, and since then, she has not been called up to the team. Africa’s best player and Barcelona Femeni star, Asisat Oshoala has led the Falcons since then.
The 27-year-old striker is part of the Nigerian contingent that landed in Vienna, Austria, on Thursday to begin training ahead of the Aisha Buhari International Women Football Tournament.
The Aisha Buhari invitational is a six-nation tournament that will be held in Lagos. Ghana’s Black Queens, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses, Banyana Banyana of South Africa, Morocco and Mali would participate in the tournament which will begin in September.
Oparanozie is among 26 players joined by technical and administrative staff at the Event Hotel Pyramide Vienna for total concentration as Coach Randy Waldrum and teams will fight for a glittering trophy named in honour of the first lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari.
