Barcelona set to hand Koeman a second chance
Barcelona boss, Ronaldo Koeman has been given a second chance to bring glory to the Camp Nou, following initial reports that he could be sacked after the disappointing results of last season.
However, the report from SER Catalunya implied that the Dutch manager has agreed to make some changes to the managerial style he employed last season.
Koeman was heavily criticized for Barcelona’s performance in the just-concluded season, which saw Barcelona finish third, behind Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. They also lost the round of 16 to PSG in the Champions League.
According to reports from SER Catalunya, via their ‘Qu’e t’hi jugues!’ programme, the Dutchman will remain in charge of Barcelona, and his stay will be announced on or before next week Friday, June 9th, 2021.
The report says that Koeman, who has had several meetings with the club president, will stay till his contract runs out in 2022, and Joan Laporta has instructed him that he MUST return to playing the 4-3-3 formation, and also a more offensive style, as they are desperate to restore the glory days.
The 58-year-old gaffer, who played the 3-4-3 and 4-4-2 formation for most of last season will have to revert to the 4-3-3 formation, as it is not negotiable, else, he may be shown the exit door before the season ends.
Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Manchester City legend, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia also from the Cityzens, and Emerson Royal from Real Betis, and are expected to complete the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay in the coming days, leaving Koeman with lots of options.
