Chelsea's Kerr booked for hitting pitch invader against Juventus

Chelsea's Sam Kerr was booked on Wednesday night after knocking a pitch invader to the ground.

Chelsea were playing against Juventus at Kingsmeadow in the Champions League when a man entered the pitch. The play was temporarily paused before Australia captain Kerr knocked the pitch invader over, using her shoulder.

The 28-year-old was cheered by fans in attendance while the man was pursued from the pitch by stewards. Swedish referee Sara Persson decided to produce a yellow card, booking Kerr for her actions.

The pitch invader tried to take a selfie while on the pitch and Chelsea head coach Emma Hayes was baffled by the incident.

Hayes said: “I don’t know why he didn’t wait to the end, he could have got a picture then. In all seriousness, we’ve got to think about player welfare and safety. A Chelsea statement said: "We keep security under continual review."

Chelsea were frustrated on Wednesday night and were held to a 0-0 draw, not scoring for the first time this season. Hayes's side now need a draw at Wolfsburg next week to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.
