Chris Paul's 30 points propel Suns past Pelicans in Game 1 win

Suns point guard Chris Paul tallied 30 points to propel Phoenix to a 110-99 win over the New Orleans Pelicans in Game 1 of their playoff series Sunday.

Paul dominated the fourth quarter by putting up 19 points with three 3s. He finished the night with seven rebounds and 10 assists and went 12-of-16 from the field.

"That's just classic Chris," coach Monty Williams said of Paul's fourth-quarter performance. "At the right time, he takes over, and we needed it."

Fellow Suns guard Devin Booker added: "He's built for these moments."

Booker tallied 25 points with eight assists, while center Deandre Ayton had 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Pelicans could not keep up with Paul in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points as a team during the final period. Guard CJ McCollum led New Orleans in scoring on the night with 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Forward Brandon Ingram recorded 18 points and five rebounds.

The Suns and Pelicans will face off in Game 2 on Tuesday.
