Cristiano Ronaldo feels 'betrayed' by Erik ten Hag and Man Utd amid World Cup preparations

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence on his future in an interview with Piers Morgan as he prepares to help Portugal win the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo made it clear that he wanted to leave the club during the summer transfer window, but United refused to allow the 37-year-old striker to leave the club.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner returned to Manchester last summer after leaving Juventus and scoring 24 goals in just 39 appearances in all competitions.

In an exclusive TV interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, via The Sun, Ronaldo admitted to feeling 'betrayed' by Erik ten Hag and some senior figures at United.

Asked if United are trying to force him out, the 37-year-old said: "Yes. Not only the coach but the other two or three guys that are around the club."

When asked if they are at senior executive level, Ronaldo added: "Yes. I felt betrayed."

Ronaldo continued by discussing the idea that United are actively trying to get rid of him, despite the Portuguese superstar being considered one of the greatest players to have played. Ronaldo said: "Honestly, I shouldn't say that I don't know but listen, I don't care.

"People should listen to the truth. Yes I feel betrayed and I felt that some people they don't want me here. Not only this year but last year too."

Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo suggested Wayne Rooney is jealous of him as he hit back at his former Manchester United teammate's criticism of his behaviour.

Rooney said that the Portugal star's behaviour has been "not acceptable" this season and urged him to "get his head down and work and be ready to play". But Ronaldo, 37, has not taken the criticism well and sniped back at the ex-England striker.

“I don’t know why he criticises me so badly... probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at high level," he said in an interview with The Sun. “I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true."
