Cristiano Ronaldo to miss Chelsea clash on Saturday
Cristiano Ronaldo has been dropped from Manchester United's first-team squad ahead of a trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Ronaldo stormed off down the tunnel before the full-time whistle was blown in Manchester United's victory over Tottenham with reports that the Portuguese forward is alleged to have refused to come on as a substitute.
He was seen leaving the dugout before the final whistle at Old Trafford on Wednesday night - while subsequent reports suggested that the 37-year-old left the stadium without even heading to the dressing room.
Manager Erik ten Hag is said to be furious by his actions and the club have now confirmed that he will not play any part with the first-team for the weekend's game against Chelsea.
When quizzed about Ronaldo's premature depart from Old Trafford after the Spurs game, Ten Hag said afterward that he would ‘deal’ with the situation.
A club statement said: "Cristiano will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture."
United pulled off a superb performance over Antonio Conte's win - one which some have considered to be their best of the season - but the headlines soon turned to how Ronaldo left the ground early and did not join in the celebrations with his team-mates.
