Falconets will not relax despite 7-0 first-leg win -Okpe

Blessing Okpe has stated that the Falconets will not rest on their laurels after an excellent start to their FIFA U20 women’s world cup qualifying campaign.

The Nigerians secured a phenomenal 7-0 win against the Central Africa Republic over the course of the weekend and are looking to secure an empathic second leg win.

The Falconets made things abundantly clear from the second minute of the match played in Douala when Mercy Idoko finished brilliantly to put Nigeria ahead. Nigeria did not put their foot off the pedal and went on to score three more goals in the first half.

The second period followed a similar pattern as Deborah Abiodun (78th minute), Taiwo Lawal (83rd minute) and Yena Adoo (one minute into time added-on) piled more misery on the central Africans, who were actually playing at ‘home’.

Okpe speaking in a chat with said the mood in the camp was massive and exciting to have started the qualifying campaign on a winning note.

She also added that the team will now shift focus to the second leg where they will be out to complete the job and secure qualification to the next round of the FIFA U20 women’s world cup qualifiers.

The return leg has now been scheduled for Wednesday, 6th October at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
