Grizzlies beat Timberwolves, take 3-2 series lead
Grizzlies star Ja Morant hit a game-winning layup to lift Memphis past the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 111-109 win Tuesday night. With the win, Memphis takes a 3-2 lead in their first-round series.
"Go get a bucket, Ja," Morant said when asked to describe his final play.
The Grizzlies rallied in the fourth quarter to pull off the stunning win. Down by 11 early in the quarter, Morant led the rally by scoring 18 points in the final period. Minnesota nearly stopped Memphis after Anthony Edwards scored a game-tying three-pointer with 3.7 seconds left on the clock.
Morant, who was named the NBA's most improved player on Monday, hit his layup with one second remaining to seal Memphis' comeback. He led the Grizzlies with 30 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists after delivering an epic poster dunk late in the third quarter.
Desmond Bane added 25 points, while Brandon Clarke had 21 off the bench.
Karl-Anthony Towns paced Minnesota with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Edwards finished with 22 points.
The Timberwolves will host Memphis for Game 6 on Friday.
