LaLiga: Sadiq kick-starts life at Real Sociedad with debut goal against Atletico
Super Eagles forward, Umar Sadiq had a memorable start to his career at Real Sociedad as he netted a debut goal in the team’s 1-1 draw against Atleticio Madrid in Saturday’s La Liga game.
The Nigerian international, who recently joined Real Sociedad from Almeria this summer transfer, wasted no time to announce himself to the club having started the game on the bench.
Sadiq netted in the 55th minute few minutes to cancel Atletico Madrid’s fifth minute goal that was scored by Alvaro Morata.
Sociedad's summer signing, Cho, sent in an inviting cross which was nodded home by Sadiq, thus making himself a cult hero at The Reale Arena, instantly repaying a fraction of his transfer fee.
The striker had scored two goals in three league appearances for Almeria before linking up with Real Sociedad this week.
He could have earned himself a double in the 67th minute but his effort was well saved by Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, Jan Oblak and all efforts for both teams to score the winning goal proved abortive as the game ended 1-1.
The draw means, Real Sociedad sits 8th on seven points on the log, trailing Atletico Madrid who are also on seven points by a goal.
