Miami Heat clinches top spot for the Eastern Conference playoffs
Miami Heat (52-28) clinched the best record and No. 1 seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs after both the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers lost Thursday night.
After a four-game losing streak that included losses to shorthanded Philadelphia and Golden State, the Heat have won five straight. The loss to Golden State on March 23 included a verbal dispute during a timeout between Jimmy Butler and coach Erik Spoelstra and Udonis Haslem.
The Heat will host one of four teams (Cleveland, Brooklyn, Atlanta or Charlotte) depending on how the Play-In Tournament goes.
The Heat are two games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks (50-30), who beat the Celtics on Thursday. Boston (50-31) is third and the 76ers (49-31) are fourth in the East.
