NBA: Lakers beat Mavericks in overtime with Reaves winner
Lakers guard Austin Reaves scored a 3-pointer with less than a second left to beat the Dallas Mavericks 107-104 in overtime on Wednesday. The rookie's overtime winner helped the Los Angeles outfit secure a third straight win in a season that has been full of more downs than ups.
The win came against a Mavericks team playing without Luka Doncic, who was out with a sprained left ankle.
The Lakers and Mavericks traded 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions in the final minute before Reaves’ game-winner. Tied 104-104 after Maxi Kleber banked in a 3 with 15.5 seconds left, Russell Westbrook drove to the basket and kicked out to Reaves, who went undrafted out of Oklahoma, for the win.
The win was the Lakers’ third straight. The Lakers have now beat the Thunder and Magic, two of the worst teams in the league, and the Doncic-less Mavericks, who are a lottery-level team without their Slovenian superstar.
LeBron James led the Lakers with 24 points and Reaves had 15 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range.
