Neuer sets record as Germany thrash Latvia 7-1

Germany captain Manuel Neuer wrote his name in the history books when he became the first goalkeeper to make 100 appearances for the national team against Latvia on Monday night.

The 2014 World Champions were ruthless, beating their opponents 7-1 on the night. Thomas Mueller scored his first international goal since 2018. Timo Werner, Leroy Sane, and Ilkay Gundogan also scored in the final warm up game before Euro 2020.

Neuer was applauded onto the pitch by his team-mates before kick-off to mark the moment. The 35-year-old veteran did not have much to do in Duesseldorf as Latvia were put to the sword by the brutal German attack.

The Bayern Munich shot-stopper could not celebrate his historical night with a clean sheet as

Aleksejs Saveljevs scored a goal for the Latvians late on.

Germany would be happy with the convincing win and would look towards their EURO 2020 opening game with confidence. Joachim Low’s men will begin their tournament with a clash with France with games against Portugal and Hungary to follow.
