Ogun State Wrestling Association concludes trials for athletes
In a bid to select the best athletes that will represent Ogun State at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Delta state, the State Wrestling Association has concluded its trials.
The trials which took place at the indoor hall of Alake sports centre, Ijeja Abeokuta, attracted retired coaches, administrators, parton of the association as well as lovers of the sport.
Speaking with Journalists, a two time Olympic gold medalist, Mr Amos Ojo said the future was bright for wrestling in Ogun state based on the performance of of the wrestlers during the trials.
Mr Ojo, a former wrestling Head coach in the state lauded the efforts of the chairman and members of the association to develop the game said there was the need for government to also support the association with necessary equipment for the athletes.
Also, the head coach, Mr Adebayo Badmus explained that the trials was necessary to pick the best wrestlers that would compete with other states at the National Sports Festival in Delta state.
Mr Badmus promised to correct the mistakes noticed during the trials before the commencement of the biennial event.
The captain of the Wresting team, Agwaza Solomon who expressed worry over the poor state of facilities available for training which he said had caused injuries to the athletes appealed to the present administration to support the athletes with necessary equipment.
Mr Solomon reaffirmed the determination of the wrestlers to return to the state with gold medals after the festival in Delta state.
