Pelicans eliminate Spurs, will face Clippers on Friday for No. 8 seed
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the San Antonio Spurs 113-103 in Wednesday’s Play-In Tournament. New Orleans will now face the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night for a shot at the No. 8 seed.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich finished his 26th season as the team's head coach. He is currently the NBA's oldest head coach at 73. When asked postgame if he will be coming back to coach next season, he responded, "That question is inappropriate."
Jose Alvarado and CJ McCollum combined for 29 of the Pelicans' 35 points in the second quarter to give New Orleans an 11-point lead heading into halftime.
McCollum scored 27 points in the first half and finished with 32 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Alvarado contributed 12 points off the bench. Brandon Ingram had 27 points.
2022 NBA All-Star guard Dejounte Murray had a slow night, shooting 5-for-19 with 16 points and nine rebounds. He is averaging 21.1 points for the season. Devin Vassell led in scoring for the Spurs with 23 points.
