Powell scores 24 points on injury return as Clippers defeat Suns
Norman Powell recorded 24 points in his first game back from injury as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Phoenix Suns 113-109 on Wednesday night. He came off the bench to log 23 minutes.
Powell — who joined the Clippers in early February in a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers — had been sidelined since Feb. 10 after suffering a fractured medial sesamoid bone against the Dallas Mavericks. He is averaging 18.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game during the 2021-22 season.
Powell got to his right hand for his first bucket in the opening quarter, then outscored the Suns 15-9 in the second quarter. Yes, the entire Suns team. He made everything. Literally everything in the first half: 17 points, 6/6 FGs, 3/3 3s, 2/2 FTs.
Paul George was one of seven Clippers players to record double-digit points, scoring 19 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field. George became the 15th active NBA player to record 15,000 career points.
The Clippers (40-40) improve to .500 on the season with the victory. Los Angeles remains in eighth place in the Western Conference, poised to compete in the Play-In Tournament with two regular-season games remaining.
