Ronaldo gets his wish to wear Man United Number 7 jersey
Manchester United have confirmed the jersey number for Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 36-year-old, widely considered as the greatest goalscorer in the history of the game, returned to the club after 12 years following his successful spells at Real Madrid and Juventus.
Ronaldo broke the record for most international goals scored on Wednesday and will wear the famous number 7 jersey at Old Trafford in his second debut for the club. Manchester United confirmed the update via an official statement.
It read: “Manchester United can confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the iconic no.7 shirt after returning to Old Trafford. The Portuguese superstar famously wore the legendary shirt number during his first spell at United and we can now confirm that Ronaldo will have it on his back once again.
“In his first six seasons at the club, between 2003 and 2009, Ronaldo made 292 appearances and scored 118 goals, winning nine trophies including three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.”
Before Ronaldo’s arrival, Edinson Cavani was the custodian of the number 7 jersey but the Uruguayan switched to the no. 21, the same number he wears for his national team, following Daniel James’ switch to Leeds United.
