Roy Keane to hold talks with Sunderland

Roy Keane is set to hold talks with Sunderland over the vacant managerial position at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have begun the search for a new boss after Lee Johnson was sacked on Sunday night and Keane is expected to be among the candidates formally considered by the League One club.

The 50-year-old has been away from frontline management since leaving Ipswich Town in 2011 but two years in charge of Sunderland included promotion to the Premier League in 2007.

Majority shareholder Kyril Louis-Dreyfus will make the final call over a successor to Johnson but David Jones, who works with Keane at Sky Sports’ live football coverage, forms part of Sunderland’s non-executive board.

Sunderland, who are currently third in League One, face Doncaster Rovers in League One on Saturday.
